Ophthalmological examination is performed in order to prevent transmission of hereditary eye diseases, such as PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), cataract and glaucoma, and it is advised for reproductive animals.
To perform the examination about 30 minutes are necessary; the examination is performed before and after the instillation of a collyrium that temporarily dilates the pupils. In some animals it is also necessary to perform the gonioscopy using a special lens to observe the eye angle. Since these procedures do not cause any discomfort to animals, sedation is performed only in less collaborative cases.
The certificate is provided in quadruplicate, has international validity and it is written in English and in Italian in order to make it understandable worldwide.
